On our Instagram, we’ve started a series called "Artist Emulations,” inviting people of all ages to make artwork inspired by artists we admire. To emulate an artist is similar to imitating that artist's ways of working, but it's not the same as copying. By emulating another artist you can learn to appreciate their work more, notice what they notice, and experience a new way of making.
The first artist we selected is Nina Katchadourian, an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Brooklyn. She began her project “Seat Assignment” in 2010, challenging herself to create art during flights with just her camera phone and the materials around her. What a perfect challenge for people at home right now! We asked our followers to create new images with magazines and snacks from their kitchen or pantry.
